Dance Theatre Southwest (DTSW) is in its 15th year providing the highest quality dance education to the Albuquerque community. DTSW has always been on the cutting edge of dance in the Southwest, including hosting the New Mexico Dance Festival. We have received national recognition as a school of great quality and integrity and have been invited to dance in Europe. DTSW is proud to be home to the New Mexico Ballet Company (NMBC), which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, and NMBCII - The Junior Company - now in its fourth season.
We look forward to making this year a very exciting and positive experience. Our policies and programs are intended to ensure that every student receives a quality dance education, appreciation of dance as an art form and the discipline so vital to personal success and achievement.
Because each student has different goals for studying dance, Dance Theatre Southwest offers a variety of programs and classes to satisfy both the casual dancer and those students wanting to consider dance as a career. Each student is carefully evaluated and placed in a program best suited to his or her goals and abilities that will provide safe, technically correct training, as well as a challenging, well-rounded appreciation of dance.
We continue to strive to make Dance Theatre Southwest your choice for dance education and are pleased to continue to offer new programs and classes to our students. This fall, look for our NEW "Creative Studies" and "Foundation" classes.
We hope you join us for our 2008-2009 Season.

GENERAL DIVISION
Students wanting to study less intensively may attend classes within the Ballet Division (Lower School or Upper
School) following a PLACEMENT CLASS TO DETERMINE APPROPRIATE LEVEL. Placement is determined by technical ability, NOT AGE, and is ultimately the decision of the faculty. Those students wishing to study Pointe must be taking at least 2 ballet technique classes per week.
NOTE: Students attending technique classes within the General Division will not progress at the same pace as students enrolled more frequently in the Ballet Division. Students will be placed at their current technical level.
Ballet Division (Lower School)
For students wishing to study more intensively, following are the recommended programs of study for each level within the Ballet Division. Please remember that students most likely will continue in a level for 2 or more years, particularly as a student advances into the Upper School. Advancement will depend on mastering the technique presented at each level. Students progress at different rates and therefore, we evaluate students on an individual basis for advancement. We continue to place students in the most appropriate level to correctly and safely strengthen technique which guarantees a successful learning experience.
All students must wear pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair secured neatly in bun. Leotards should not have attached skirt. Boys: black tights (or black "bike style" shorts), plain white T-shirt, white ankle socks, and black ballet slippers.
